Announcement! Changes to Free Demo next week!

demo-changes

With this post we want to inform everyone that we are going to have some changes for the demo that is available for free right now.

As we often hinted at: We want to change the demo you can play in your browser or download for free right now. But what will change? Well, quite a lot actually.

First of all the demo will be reduced to the Story Mode only. That means no more Puzzle and Exploration Mode! Additionally some options will be removed that make no sense for the demo (like the whole Interface section). Furthermore there’ll be some post story stuff showing what else you can do in CrossCode. Finally you will only be able to save in one slot since Story Mode alone is rather short. And that’s the reason we wanted to create this new demo version: It’s shorter.

Now we know that a lot of people enjoyed the long demo and all the content they could play. But there lies the main problem: There’s just so much content that it isĀ too much for a demo. Most of the people only even played the Story Mode. So, while talking to players and friends we found that making the demo shorter and more focused would help more people to get hyped and even consider buying the Early Access.

Coming from the RPG-Maker Community we were used to pushing all the content we have as a demo, never considering that showing only parts of the game and hyping with more would be the better option. So before things get worse, we decided to change the free demo. Another thing is that we don’t want to have this kind of close gap between the Early Access version, which is a development version, and a free demo. Why buy the game when you get the same thing for free, right?

But we don’t want to throw you in cold water just like that!

So we’re not changing it today or tomorrow, but next week. To be specific at Wednesday! Of course we have absolutely nothing against everyone to download the current state of the demo. ;)

So go ahead and download the demo as long as you can!

Alright, TL/DR:

On Wednesday next week we’ll switch the current demo with a shorter, more focused version which better serves the purpose of a “demo”! :D

That’s it! See you in the next post!

You should make the full version episodic so there is not too much content for a single game.

I don’t agree completely. I do think it’s a better idea not including the Exploration mode but the Puzzle mode really got me into the game. Please keep that in! It was the extra bit of hook and ended on a great note!

The Story Mode was good and I liked it. The Puzzle Mode really let me free with the mechanics and ended with a boss battle of enemies and a harder version of the turret in Story Mode. It ended on a very fun note and gave me a better taste for the game, specifically because it upped the difficulty (the mice and the turret) and tested me. It was an actual challenge and I actually felt like I had to work for that win somewhat.

For that reason I beg you to not remove it from the demo. I loved playing the Puzzle Mode after the demo and it was the Exploration Mode that dragged on for far too long. I still haven’t collected all the chests, the song has gotten monotonous, I feel like I’m going in circles, and only the desire to unlock more story has me playing.

  • The story mode was good, but what really got me convinced about the game was the exploration mode and to a lesser extent the puzzle mode. I loved the rpg aspect of the game.

If you hadn’t included these in the demo I would have passed over this game like so many other cute indie games.

If you want to have more contrast between the demo and the early access that’s fine. On the other hand, if it needs this differentiation it makes me think the final game will be somewhat diluted and not have that much content.

  • Hey I wanted to just say good job on the demo guys! I really liked it and the story was engaging and pretty well fleshed out. I really wish there was an option to change the characters wardrobe though because the entire time I was playing with my balls I kept thinking “Man! I could really get into this girl.”

    Pls respond ;_;

It’s been over two weeks since the last update. Why does it take so long?

Windows/web only or OS X? I know it’s a long shot rn but I keep hoping. For me the game really fits the aesthetic of a Mac.
