CrossCode DevLog #63
Steam Greenlight and date for Indiegogo Campaign

Scuh

Time for another DevLog! You can now find CrossCode on two new platforms: Steam Greenlight and Gamejolt. Also, we finally have a date for our Indiegogo Campaign. Of course, we also got new content for you, including a new boss fight.

Steam Greenlight and Gamejolt

CrossCode is finally available on Steam Greenlight:

So if you want to see CrossCode released on Steam some time in the future (like… wouldn’t that be great?), go ahead and give us a vote! :D

Another platform you can find us on now is Game Jolt!

Have a look at it, show it to your friends etc. If CrossCode gets a lot of views and good ratings, we might get more people to see our game!

Start date of our Indiegogo Campaign

Yepp, so we finally decided for a start date of our crowdfunding campaign.

The Indiegogo campaign for CrossCode will start on February 25th and run until March 28th.

…So why so late? Let’s just say there are a couple of events we might want to attend during this timeframe. Nothing’s for certain yet, but once it is, we’ll tell you more about it!

Puzzle Maps and Boss fights

I spent last week creating more content for the puzzle mode, such as two new rooms featuring the new bounce switch puzzle mechanics:

new-room-1

new-room-2

Additionally, I added a proper boss at the end of the dungeon. Now this guy might seem familiar to you:

boss

But don’t be too careless! This time he has a few new tricks up his imaginary sleeves:

rhombus-boss-derp

All of this content will be playable with the new version we’ll release with the new Indiegogo campaign.

Menu Help and Editors

Since our game menu is getting more and more features, it is about time we added a proper explanation for all of it – within the game. That’s what R.D. has been working on last week. This is how the new help menu looks like:

help

It includes several pages full of informative content to make sure that no feature is left unexplained.

Another feature I’ve been working on is something you won’t see within the game, but which will result in faster creation of content: new editors for animations and effects. Especially the creation process for effects has been greatly simplified.

This is what we’ve been working with before:

json-editor

This is a generic json editor (custom made). It only helps you to write generic Json files and keep the formatting correct. It doesn’t help you with the content otherwise. Editing effects this way means you have to know the names of all configuration options by heart – which is impossible (for me, anyway). So instead, I look it up or copy it from other files over and over again – and this takes time! Especially because our effect files have a huge amount of configuration options.

tl;dr: Creating effects with the JSON Editor is a pain.

Anyway, this is how the new effect editor looks like:

effect-editor

Not only does this editor list you all possible configuration options, it also provides you an immediate preview of the current effect. I really can’t stress enough how much this helps with the creation of effects.

Let’s just put it this way: creating effects with the new editor is actually fun!

So what does this mean for you? New effects will most likely be prettier and will be created faster (so we waste less time with it => more time for other content).

…So I hope I convinced anyone that was no waste of time, right? … Right? :D

…Because we might plan to do the same for enemies~

Stream Event and Birthdays

Especially for all our German followers a small heads up: We’ll have a livestream with HerrDekay on February 14th, 18:00 (German Time Zone) – Dekay will play the current dev version of CrossCode while R.D. and I will talk about all kind of development stuff. All that talk will be in German – but maybe just seeing the current dev version might be interesting for some of you. Feel free to join the stream! :D

And finally, somebody from our team just got an age++: Happy birthday to Intero!

And that’s all for this weeks update. Until next week!

how soon are people going to have to pay for CrossCode? if so, is the beta going to be on greenlight (and will we have to pay for it), or will it arrive with a version 1.0?

P.S. if I missed any details on versions released on Steam and prices, please include them as well. thanks!

    • Paying for the full game kinda starts with the crowdfunding if you back enough money. However we’ll probably give people the option to pre-order the game after the crowd-funding too (Just like many games do it). Version 1.0 will be the version for the first full release, early 2016.
The price of the full game can be seen on the steam greenlight page. (Although the page does a rather bad job at showing it)
We plan to release early access via steam too! Not sure how this works, as we first have to get beyond greenlight I guess :D

  • Aww yea, steam greenlight here we go. Really hope this will go well, steam reaches so many peeople and makes it easy for everyone.

Not too fond of german streams, i greatly prefer english ones. Naja kann man wohl nichts machen, ich werds schon überstehen. ;)

The new content looks lovely, i’m excied.

Another exciting update. I was just wondering how much the Indiegogo goal will be? I’m scared we might not make it D:

oh, and I voted yes on Greenlight, of course :D.

    • This game is everything an Action RPG should be, of course we will make it! ;)
They don’t even need to confirm things like Multiplayer, PvP and New classes to reach the initial goal, since the game is already fun.
So yeah, my money is ready at the right moment.

      • But please make sure the initial goal isn’t too high, this is how Hyper Light Drifter reached its Stetch goals easier and made way more money.

  • Hell to the yes, I’m so voting this up on Greenlight. The trailer video featured there is bound to attract players (Idk why but the whole ‘LEVEL UP!’ thing just makes it so much more attractive.)
So much yes, and the screenshots; very yes. I can’t wait for it to come out I’m gonna buy it on multiple platforms lmao
