DevLog #65 – Role Play Convention (RPC) in Cologne, Rookie Harbor and Animated Map Tiles

Hello everyone!

It’s about time for another DevLog. Now that the Indiegogo campaign is over, we will  go for a weekly update schedule – and sometimes biweekly if too much stuff is going on. That’s the case right now. Sorry for the wait!

Anyway, let’s start with the big news:

CrossCode at RPC Cologne, Germany

If you’re nearby Cologne, Germany and consider attending the RPC (Role Play Convention), why not drop by and give us (Lachsen and GFluegel) a visit? We’ll be at the World of Nerds booth, presenting CrossCode! And not just the good old demo, no, we’ll have some big news for you at RPC!

So, if you find the time, why not drop by?

Progress for Rookie Harbor

For those who don’t know: Rookie Harbor is about the first city you can fully explore in CrossCode. It’s a strange mixture of old-medieval style timber-frames building and sci-fi metal constructions and, of course, lasers. You can expect these kind of mixtures throughout the game!

Anyway, have a couple of screenshots:

More details for the building. Look at those vines!

Animated Map Tiles

Those following our dev streams already know about it, but we recently implemented animated map tiles. This mostly means that things like our water will now be nicely animated

Looks much more like water now, right?

What we’ve shown during the dev stream as well is how we created a small little editor to specify those animations. This one is finished, too:

Planning Ahead

We recently had a long planning session discussing new areas in CrossCode in greater detail. For instance “Bergen Trail” where you will climb high up until you reach the top of a mountain – with a small village on it. The trail will come with several small details and also caves. Yes, caves. We might add some hidden caves to Autumn Rise as well. :D

Other than content planning, we also try to figure out how to improve the overall project management, finding good platforms to organize tasks, how to document things, how to keep track of dates and deadlines. If any of you have suggestions for good systems, please tell us! We’re still looking right at this moment.

And that’s it! See you next week with more updates, same CrossPlace, somewhatrandom CrossTime!

I’m a professional javascript developer and at work we use youtrack for organizing tasks (free for up to 10 users), google calendar to keep track of deadlines and meetings (you can share calendars) and google spreadsheets and google docs for documentation or data. We also use jenkins for automatic unit testing and building but I think that might be a little overkill for a project of your size. All in all I think everyone in the team should have a google account and use the free google eco system, it’s really well done for work

    hope it helps

  • about the the project management tools:
    i know Redmine and JIRA
they are both expandable by plugins.
