CrossCode now on Steam in Early Access!

Yes, we did it. Enter the hype.

Today we officially announce our release on Steam and our cooperation with Deck13! After a long wait and a bumpy ride we’re finally on Steam.

Steeeeeeaam

Click to get to the Steam Store Page!

If you haven’t already backed at least 25€ in the crowdfunding campaign, click on the image to get to the Steam store page and get your Early Access! We have an exclusive offer running until 22th May (my birthday, coincidence? I think not). You can get the Early Access for 16,99 bucks. After the 22th the price is going to be 19,99 €/$.

All the backers will get their steam key in the next week. We would love to give it to you right now but as mentioned in the previous update, our team is currently attending the RPC in Cologne, Germany. Once everyone is back, we can finally roll out the Steam keys!

And if you’re wondering if we add Steam features like Achievements or Trading Cards… We sure want to! Achievements are something we will work on in the next month! Get ready Achievement Hunters!

So, keep an eye on your inbox for your CrossCode Steam Key! Of course we also know that some people prefer DRM-Free alternatives, which we plan to work on that soon, too.

Now let’s talk about something some of you might already have noticed. On the Steam page you can see that we actually work together with Deck13. Deck13 is a company that publishes and develops games here in Germany. Some of you might know them as the developers/publishers behind Lords of the Fallen! These guys are really amazing to help us out with marketing and setting up the shop for CrossCode. However, this does not mean that the game will change! We are still doing the game we want! We know that publishers are sometimes viewed with caution but Deck13 are a bunch of really awesome gals and guys that help us out with stuff we can’t possibly handle alone without sacrificing development time. Without them we wouldn’t even be on Steam right now, because we still want to participate in a scholarship for start-up companies here in Germany. One rule however is that we can’t form a company until the scholarship starts. Thanks to Deck13 we can provide you with Early Access AND participate in the scholarship, a true win-win scenario!

So TL/DR. Let’s all welcome Deck13!

Finally there will be a change regarding the online demo. Next week we will take the lengthy demo done and switch it with a shorter version which gives an overall impression of the game. We already talked a lot about this on stream and we think this is the best way to get more people to take a look without feeling overwhelmed. But we have nothing against you downloading the current state until then! However the online demo will receive no updates anymore (We may change it before release to showcase new features).

Alright, this is all everyone! Expect regular CrossCode updates again, soon.

  • Please keep in mind those backers, who are not able or not willing to fall to (the DRM-ness of) Steam.
I’d really like to follow further development, but “early access” did not imply “by the means of steam” to me.

I do know the steam-client is “free” and all; for me it’s not an issue of payment/money, but instead I’d like to have the freedom to download, install, offline-play in the way I want, whenever I want, as long as I want. Unhampered, untracked/-monitored, unchained.

I was (besides the great game so far) really teased by “DRM-free” in the campaign. Please: don’t let the DRM-phobics down now (waiting for the final release, promised as being DRM-free).

umm… just to let you guys know, for anyone within the US, we do money with periods, not commas(ex: $16.99, instead of $16,99)
I’m not saying you need to change it though, just saying this for any americans that are confused.

oh and, the euro is 1.14 dollars, so a game here that is 20 bucks would be roughly 17.48 there. just something to think about!

    • Price should be the same, since it’s not bound to the currency afair. Oh and if A euro would be 1.14, then it would be $22.89 in the US :D

sorry, I got it the other wat around, but yes. I would love to play your game and get it in early access but enough games have had paid early access and just didn’t live up to the expectations,(ex: Destiny) I just don’t see a point in having a price for early access so high. I am not, however, saying you should lower the price, because I do not know anything about what kind of financial issues you may currently be working through. That said, you probably have taken all this into consideration. The only thing I’m worried about is the fact that steam users will see an early access game for a high price (compared to other indie titles, at least) and expect it to flop and not reach the goals and promises it had, because steam is having trust issues currently with paid early access games, bue to past experiences.

All in all, though, this is a great game. I would no doubt pay for it, in the official release (like minecraft 1.0). I love seeing the progress your team is making, and I would like more steam users to find this diamond in the rough. Thank you for listening, and I hope anything I said has helped

  • Sorry for asking this but are you still planing to make this game for the wii u?

Will I be able to download the DRM free version without a steam account? I don’t have one (nor do I want one really).

I have bought the Auditor Early Bird tier. Does this mean that I will be able to obtain the beta version without a steam account soon too?

  • Will it be possible to buy the game outside steam if one missed the crowdfunding campaign? Additionally, will the game be available as a package that is runnable using web browser (like the demo). As a FreeBSD user that would be much more convenient than the .exe.
