Project Terra Prototype Completed

Hello everyball!

It has been some time since our last post. In the mean time, we’ve been busy wrapping up our prototype for Project Terra. Now we have a couple exciting things to show! Also: CrossCode Console Update

Project Terra Prototype Showcase

The goal of our prototype was to develop a technical foundation and try out a new 3D Pixel Art graphic style, a new animation system, and a couple new gameplay mechanics. And the good news is: We pretty much achieved all of it!

Here are a couple tweets showcasing all the tech you can find in the prototype!

Title Screen and Intro:

Fighting enemies:

More advanced combat moves:

Exploration:

Caves and fighting flying enemies:

Village and Interiors:

New Music:

You may also have noticed this new… character in the image above! Their name is Cabbage – probably(?). We’ll tell you more about them next year!

At this point, we’d like to once again thank the German government (the BMVI in particular) for supporting the development of this prototype!

Thanks Bundestag!

Project Terra: Next Steps

So, what’s next? And when will we finally release something?

Now that the prototype has been completed, we plan to move on to the actual production phase of the game soon. That one will take much longer compared to creating the prototype, because when it’s completed… the game is supposed to be finished.

So… when will Project Terra (which is still a project name…) be released?

If there’s one things we learned from CrossCode, it’s that we’ll be much more careful about mentioning a release date this early. We do have a lot more experience now and hopefully this will be able to make a more accurate estimate, but still… lets just say it will still take a few years.

Yes, that’s a pretty long time. If you want to play something earlier, there’s another thing we plan to offer, just like with CrossCode: Early Access.  Again, we hope to use your feedback during development to hopefully create another quality game with lots of rough corners ironed out – before the final release. And when will Early Access start…? Sorry, we also don’t quite know that yet!

In any case, we’ll keep you posted on any new developments and whenever we’re ready to mentioning any sort of release date!

CrossCode Console Update

Last but not least we’d like to mention that the final CrossCode update (version 1.4.2-1) now also hit on consoles, making all the formerly platform-exclusive content… cross-platform compatible!

… Also there’s performance improvements. Yay!

And that’s all!

Until next time!

Can’t wait for project terra to release on Nintendo switch. It looks really nice.
Somewhat reminds me of secret of mana.

  • Looking forward it

  • Wow, looks great and promising. I love that new 3d effect in the landscape. While it could be even more eyecandy than CrossCode, I am curious about the story.
I wonder, if there will be such emotional sequential plot twists, like there was in CrossCode.

I can’t wait for the early access. But take your time to make it a worthy successor.

Will A New Home ever be coming to PS5?

  • Great job so far!
Question, do we have to make a petition in order to have spanish and french translation for this one?
    Cheers ;)

  • Looks great so far! The music sounds a big generic compared to other Deniz’s work though but its so early it doesnt even amtter.

  • looks incredible, already love the to see that you somehow created your own unique style for making games!

ive got a question at this point, because you have got the rocks there, which can only be destroyed with the hammer. will there be some “zelda-esque” dynamics in the overworld, like that you can only go to certain areas with certain items – eg. you have to use bombs to get to the heart piece?

id also love to get the chance to have more special collectibles. i loved the secret of evermore-esque trading system in cross code, but it never motivated me that much to explore the world that much to get all hidden chests or kill all the enemies.

would be sweet to have some special item category in that case, which feels more important than the “normal” collectibles. to say it in zelda terms: something like heart pieces, bigger bomb bags or additional songs which arent that important for the main story, but can change the way how one can interact with the games world.

anyways: keep up the good work, project terra is already now, besides ‘sea of stars’, my most wanted game. looking forward to try it out!

    greetings,
    nemo

  • Hey! Do you still use impact.js?

  • I came across this project recently and I was bewitched! I’d play this game until the day I die, no doubt about It, congratulations on such an amazing art and gameplay <3

I stumbled across Crosscode on my ps4 a few days ago and I have not been able to put it down!

Not only does the story have me completely engrossed but the characters are so well put together that it almost makes the experience feel real! Combat is smooth without being too monotonous and the game keeps throwing new twists and unlocks to keep me constantly wondering what’s around the corner.

Also, hands down some of the best puzzles I have ever encountered. I actually have to think and approach from different angles which makes completing the puzzles very rewarding.

Thanks to the team for putting together such a gem. Project Terra looks amazing as well so hope it will be coming to consoles.
