Things are moving faster again, since we get closer to the release. We are also ready to show some first piece of music from CrossCode!
But first about the stuff we did this week:
- Integrated music into the game and improved more sounds
- Integrated descriptions for both gamepad and keyboard/mouse input that swap depending on used control method
- Overhauled the whole project structure (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Okay, that last step wasn’t really necessary for the release, but it had to be done sooner or later. We basically changed the folder structure (yet again) to improve separation between the engine and the game. This makes the content from our last post on the architecture of CrossCode outdated, but we plan to update the content before we have the next post on the architecture.
First Music Sample
We have a first sample from the OST of CrossCode!
The following song is played during the puzzles of the TechDemo and is composed by Deniz ‘Intero’ Akbulut:
If you want to read more about the composer, have a look at his blog
A detailed review of the CrossCode demo
Some time ago, S.M.N Fly wrote a very detailed review about the CrossCode TechDemo on his blog.
The review gives some very detailed descriptions of the game play mechanic. Those kind of reviews are always a very interesting read for us and highly appreciated!
Anyway, that’s all for this week!

Nice music, fits the, game well.
Thank you very much!
Yay, we have music! I’m downloading this!
For the tutorial music, it gives me an Okami vibe. The soft strings a quarter of the way in give it a forest-y feel, too. One thing I’m going to comment on is the fact that it doesn’t sound like it would fit for the cargo ship, and that halfway through it takes a slight malevolent turn, so it sounds like 2 themes medleyed together. So from that music, I sense a Nature-vs-technology type of plot.
And also, the battle music, available on Intero’s blog. The flutes seem a little out of place, but the chime thingies seem like they fit perfectly. This gives me a Wind Waker/Okami vibe too, but sounds a lot better. Maybe there should be a techno-y version for inside the cargo ship?
So aside from that nitpicking, Intero is awesome. Period.
Hi there!
I didn’t really remind me of Okami myself, but that wouldn’t be so bad either. I like the soundtrack of Okami.
Anyway, thanks for the detailed feedback.
Also, Intero saw your comment and might try to adapt some things as you suggested. :D
My logic:
Game so far: 100% tech.
Expectations: 90%ish techno.
Sound: …10% electronic.
Which is why I’m kinda confused. Okami has the least techno-y soundtrack I know, and does a great job of it too, which is why I thought it sounded like it. Listening to it now, it’s more Wind Waker the Okami, but it’s still there.
Hi, Intero! Very nice job with the music! Keep it up!
