CrossCode: Hi-lights of the …Weeks!!

highlight-16-07-19

Okay, we know, we know. We’re late again with our “weekly” Hi-Lights. We got got caught up in work and maybe playing Overwatch! So we’re not to blame, right?

Anyway, let’s get right into this because this Hi-Light has tons of new stuff for the upcoming update, so grab some popcorn and get comfy!

path-01
While the graphics for the new jungle area where done by Martina and Felix, Stefan finished up (yes, this area is already done!) a new and small area leading into the jungle called Autumn’s Fall. Sounds familiar? As you can see the theme is the same as Autumn’s Rise but there are a lot of ruins this time. This area also connects to Autumn’s Rise which means some maps have changed, uuuh mysterious.

path-02
Of course this also means new (and familiar) enemies! The area will also have new items to find for trading, so make sure to smash all these plants!

city-progress-empty
Once the graphics were done Felix started working on the jungle city. Look at that shiny ground. As you can see this city will feature high buildings and dark street corners and a lot of laser powered billboards!

Martina and Felix also created tons of assets and props for the jungle. These images are test maps show-casing how the area will look in the future.

shock-temple

exterior
As if that wasn’t enough he managed to start work on the exteriors for both the shock and wave dungeon respectively. Those are still work in progress, hence the lack of detail as of now.

Also: First steps for the interior of the dungeons!

jungle-layout
Stefan recently started working out the layout of the jungle area. This is small excerpt of the layout right now. Rope bridges in jungle? Check!

status-all-small
Since we all know we need at least one new menu per update, Stefan added the Status Menu. The last item missing from the main menu is finally here. Look at your stats while switching through elements to see how they change. This includes a long request feature: A list of all modifiers with description text, wuh! Click on it for better quality.

And that’s all for now! There is still much to do, but that also means the next update will be huge!

First an ice dungeon and now a water dungeon? I’m spoiled. On another note, given that the wave and shock dungeons are implied to be linked I wouldn’t be surprised to see water/electricity interactions. It will amuse me greatly if electricity makes water, if anything, less lethal.

As water is a great electric conductor, I can already see it forming links in electrical circuits to activate a door or a platform :D just DON’T touch the water block (which seemed harmless when approached from the side in the Faj’ro Temple), or you’ll regret it!

Also, I’m not sure but I think the Wave element designed by the Guys is actually connected to earth, as in seismic activities!

      • Water actually is highly insulating, it has a resistance as high as 18.2 MOhm cm. Pokemon lied to all of us!

Also, that city looks beautiful. And why can’t I post something here if I think Mario should be protagonist of CrossCode?

  • Looks interesting.

  • I’m a bit late on commenting, but I gotta say that this area looks amazing! The lighting in Jungle City looks absolutely stunning.

One thing has started worrying me: will there be bad balance between the game’s platforming, puzzle and action elements? If you have any of those too much, the quality of the game may quickly diminish…

I really want this game already, but keep perfecting and balancing the game so it will get as many perfect 10’s as it deserves! Can’t wait to play the full product!

  • Can I suggest something? I’m playing the beta version, and I think the Monster Fibula is very useful, but it would be very nice if the gaem had also some sort of plant-drops encyclopedia. It’s SO ANNOYING when you have to do a collect quest and you KNOW that the drop is in that area, but you simply can’t remember wich plant you have to smash, or where you should be looking for.

    • Changing the subject though, THIS IS SO AWESOME.
      AW GOOOOOOOOOD! *^*
I mean, COME ON! This is sooooo pretty! I can already imagine myself playing! … Well, I was going to ask to release it already, but it would be AWFUL to play in a bugged stage, soooooo… Take your time, guys! ;D

I haven’t commented in a while. Preferred to remain on the sidelines to see how things were progressing.

While I am impressed with the quality of work being done, I am somewhat astonished that it is taking this long and CrossCode hasn’t even hit v1.0 yet.

I realize game development takes time, but it would be nice for CrossCode to finally hit v1.0 before the xmas season this year. Maybe. It would be a pretty nice boost to sales and people can do reviews when the game is no longer in ‘Early Access’.

I still feel that ‘Games in Development’ via GoG would be a much better home for CrossCode since it is far better than 99% of the trash thrown onto Steam Early Access. I don’t feel that Steam really provides much benefit for CrossCode fans and players. It isn’t as if the game will be multiplayer (yet) so it is worth consideration.

Best of luck to you and the rest of the team on your first year of updates :)

    • Hi there!

Yes, CrossCode is still in development. The game is very ambitious and we underestimated the amount of work required. We postponed the official release to Q1 2017, you can read more about it here:

      http://www.radicalfishgames.com/?p=4397

A release for xmas is unfortunately very unlikely. It’s also not a good time to release a small indie title, because there is too much competition from big AAA titles.

We’re also trying to release the game/Early Access version with GoG but we still have to see if that works out.

  • can u make another game like this? good snes style graphic with great control, and great combat system? I’m expecting another game like this, more than the updates on cross-code

  • new map, new life, will try to update the game :D
